Certified Martha Stewart

There are a few things I'm good at around the house.

For example, I consistently take the trash/recycling out. Also, I like unloading the dishwasher (my "job" at home). Ok, so maybe few was an overstatement. But you get the idea.

I can't cook. (If you need proof) Am bad at laundry. (the divorce rate between my puma socks is ridiculous) And I'm more likely to randomly make the U.S. Olympic gymnastic team than randomly start dusting. Basically, I'm quite the catch.

Regardless of that fact that I consider myself pretty self-aware of my house keeping deficiencies, every once in a while I wake up on Saturdays with amnesia and decide I'm going to take on some outrageous domestic project that even Martha Stewart would need hired help to do. But I'm going to do it completely alone.

Since my mom, twin sister, and boyfriend, all live in different states than me (and eachother!), they aren't here to physically prevent me from embarking upon these helpless projects that will definitely not end well. And only get to receive angry text messages later :)

For example, the time I decided to make homemade pie for Friends-giving dinner, I told my mom I was going to make her homemade pie crusts. She kindly told me I should buy pre-made pie crusts. Three hours of frustration later that may or may not have involved a decent number of tears and a flour explosion all over our kitchen, I ran to the grocery store to buy pre-made crusts. Our kitchen will never recover. Flour surely is the herpes of baking ingredients, just as glitter is the herpes of craft supplies. I didn't blog about that agonizing pie baking disaster, but I did tweet:

And then last Saturday, I decided I was going to buy curtains. And hang them up in my room. I should have opted for a spontaneous marathon.

Alas:  Lessons Learned While Buying and Hanging Curtains:

1. 174 cm does NOT equal 174 inches
2. I should have listened to the Pier 1 sales lady repeating "That's a huge window"
3. I hate drills
4. I hate screw drivers
5. I despise levels
6. If I never touch another tool again in my life, it will be too soon.

So, I officially am not good at girly things around the house (like cooking/baking) or the more masculine handy work.  I am a big believer in redeeming qualities. I have a good personality, I promise. ;)

However, I am pretty happy with my curtains regardless of the ridiculous process. And some far-away friends asked me to share some pictures of my apartment, so here's a start:

I tried to use them to add some green (my favorite color) to my room -
note the new green pillow!

The pattern reminds me of Vera Bradley:

And the bottom shelf of my new bookshelf (very easy to assemble, Bed Bath and Beyond, holla), reminds me that my obsession with Vera Bradley is getting a little out of control:

the green empty frame is also new - working on filling it :)
In conclusion, next time - I'm hiring a handy man.

  1. Love your room! We miss you every time we unload the dishwasher! (Of course, I guess that means we miss Grace more - every time we need a napkin!) <3
